Affiliate disclosure
Short version: some links on this site pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change what we recommend or what we say about it.
The long version
Insurable Home is free to read. It is paid for by affiliate commissions: if you follow certain links from this site and then get a quote or buy something, the company pays us a referral fee. You pay the same price you would have paid going to them directly.
This is disclosed here, in the site footer on every page, and again inline on any page that contains a paying link — before you reach the link, not after.
What we will not do
- Sell placement. No company can pay to be recommended, ranked higher, or described more kindly.
- Let a partner review a page. No partner sees an article before it publishes or gets a say in its wording.
- Recommend on commission size. Where two options both fit, the page says so and explains the trade-off, including when the option that pays us nothing is the better one.
- Hide a conflict. If we have any relationship with a company mentioned, it is stated on the page.
Recommendations that pay us nothing
Plenty of what is recommended here earns nothing at all — pulling a permit, hiring a local electrician, calling your existing insurer first, or simply doing nothing because the risk is overstated. Those recommendations appear on their merits, and they are the reason the paid ones are worth anything.
Not professional advice
This site is general information written from trade and fire-service experience. It is not insurance advice from a licensed broker, not a substitute for your insurer's own underwriting decision, and not a substitute for a licensed electrician and a permit on any electrical work. Verify anything that affects your coverage with your own insurer.
Questions
If anything about how this site makes money is unclear, or you think a page reads like it was influenced by a commission, say so and it will be reviewed and corrected if warranted.
